Chapter 47. Best Laid Plans

The water bottle Iris threw slowly rolls along the dirty pavement back toward her the moment it bounces off Koen’s shoulder, water sloshing around inside of it, and it catches small glints of the afternoon light when it finally comes to a rest a few feet away
To Iris’s credit, she doesn’t immediately charge forward and try and shoulder check Koen away from me, though it’s pretty obvious by the way her hands are fisted at her sides and how tense her shoulders have gotten that she’s only a few moments away from it.
When he turns to her, his lips peel back to let out a sharp, warning snarl. “Go away. This isn’t any of your business.”
She tenses, eyes going wide briefly while it registers that this man is not as human as he appears to be. Any other human would be running for the hills, deciding it wasn’t worth it to lose their life over a quarrel that never involved them in the first place.
