Chapter 71. On the Move

It takes a few hours for Koen to finally come back. When he does, he gives me a curt, “I’ll figure out a way for us to leave without my father finding out,” before heading to his room and shutting the door behind him.
Under normal circumstances, maybe I would have tried to negotiate with him and figure out another way into Redmoon. As it stands, we’re running on borrowed time. Not just for Ainsley but for him too.
His death sentence is still rapidly approaching. We have no other plans, no solutions. Not even Izan knows what to do anymore. Five weeks is a long time when Koen had hardly any time left to fuck around to begin with.
Sighing, I find Iris staring down the hall at his closed door with an unreadable expression.
“You think he’ll tattle on us to his dad?” is all she asks me.
“No.” If Koen has anything going for him, it’s his fierce loyalty to the cause—whatever it happens to be at that time.
