As horrible as I feel, I have no answers for her.

None that will help her in her grief.

Tristan’s death had been an accident, one that I never in a million years thought to calculate for. Why would I when he was never supposed to be involved in the first place?

“I’m sorry,” is all I can say to her again.

Fixing things, however Cambria thinks I can, isn’t going to bring him back. No matter how convinced she is that it will. Nothing I can do, nothing that any of us can do, will make him suddenly rise from the dead. All I can hope for is that he has been collected and laid to rest properly.

Cambria’s face screws up again, more tears glittering at the corners of her eyes while she shoves away from the bars. “You’re useless.”

I don’t flinch at the venom in her words. There isn’t a point when this is just her grief talking, taking it out on the easiest target. She’s been like this her whole life; always throwing out the most
