The cold bites through my clothes as we stand at the edge of the border, yards away and downwind from where Koen is. The wind carries the faint and familiar scent of the dark earthy smell of pine and cold snow, both scents a sharp combination that makes the air a little heavy to breathe in.
Koen is ahead of us. His shoulders have been rolled back while he stands with a relaxed ease. While tension coils around Iris and I, he’s completely calm, already poised for whatever will happen once the Redmoon patrol arrives.
