Chapter 8
The floor quietened after the sound of Jonas’s body hitting the ground below them vibrated across the hotel, causing Jessie to snap out of her frozen state and allow the bat to drop from her numb but shaking fingers. She gingerly approached the railing on wobbling legs faster than jelly and nearly jumped high in the air when the bat clattered on the floor with loud clicking sounds.
Every single of her nerves was alit with the deadly mixture of fear and anxious excitement, and the resultant effect was the heady rush of adrenaline sluicing through her blood, making her feel lightheaded and agile at the same time.
She didn’t want to believe that she killed the huge monster of a man, so she tilted her head over the railing to see whether or not she was a confirmed murderer. The lower level of the floors above the connecting stairs was deserted, with no sign of the goon’s body anywhere.
“What?” she breathed as she moved from one side to side. “This can’t… this can’t be…
