I texted Pearl to cancel the ride she had ordered for me before he walked around the car and got in. 

As he started to drive, it was silent, but not the kind that felt heavy or awkward. It was oddly comfortable. Maybe familiar; too familiar for someone I hurt in the past; too familiar for someone I hadn't spoken to in years. We had just met each other again a few days ago. 

I turned to him slowly, and before I could realise it, I caught her glancing at his hands on the wheel. He now had big hands, veiny big hands. He was tapping on the wheel with his Index finger as he drove.

He stopped at a red light and turned his head to me. Shit. I turned away, hoping he didn't just catch me staring. I heard him chuckle and realised he caught me. I turned back to him and met his smiling eyes. He turned back to the road, and the lights were green again.
