Chapter 68. The Element of Surprise

When I was ready, I went downstairs and didn't see Rhys as I expected. My first instinct was to check on him in his room but I changed my mind. There was no reason I could not return to the festivities by myself.

I took the servants' passage, feeling more comfortable in my changed dress. The red dress was pretty but it was fussy and the hot weather was making it hard for me to appreciate it.

The new one was as elegant but in a simpler style and peach coloured that made my skin looke rosy. It came with tiny straps and a fitted bodice that flared from the top of my knees till it dropped to my feet. I hung its wrap around my neck like a scarf.

In my room, I had more time to think about my existing nameless relationship with Rhys. Sincerely, I enjoyed having sex with him but I also liked the safety of labels.

We were not even friends with benefits because he was the Alpha King and I was his assistant's assistant, having nothing to do wi
