Chapter 83. The King’s Guest

I stood by the door as instructed by Fitzwilliam, the palace doctor, on the lookout for Serena. Venus and the doctor had been talking for a while and I was beginning to get bored.
"And I'm done," Fitzwilliam announced, putting his stethoscope aside. Venus sighed, eyeing the empty dishes beside her.
"Can we go now?" I asked, trying to hide my impatience. Fitz glared at him sideways and returned his attention to Venus. He crouched and took her hands in his. With the way he behaved, one would assume that they were lovers or something.
"Don't be afraid, Vee. I promise you that you will get out of here. I will prove your innocence even if it's the last thing I do."
She nodded, barely conscious enough to reply. She had been going in and out of it while Fitz did his checkup and she looked frail.
"We will be leaving now. Take care of yourself," the doctor finally concluded, squeezing her palms.
