They were both staring, with tears swelling in their eyes.
She didn’t know his name. She didn’t recognise him from anywhere, but there was a pain she couldn’t explain in her heart.
His muscles were taut as he stared back at her, eyes widened as though he had just seen a ghost.
Neither of them spoke for a long time.
And then, his lips parted and a husky, deep tone came out, “You... Shouldn’t be here,”
The words cracked as they left his mouth, and she saw the faint shimmer as the tears gathered even more in his eyes, and then rolled down his cheeks.
Before she could question what she was doing, she had already stepped closer to him.
She reached out with a trembling hand and gently brushed the tears away.
He shuddered from her touch, his heart ready to explode from his chest at this point.
Her thumb lingered on his face, eyes still locked heavily on him. It wasn’t so easy to step back as it was to step close.
