Chapter 54
"You mean she's not sick?" I asked, trying to be sure.
"No sir," he added and slipped away.
I sighed, driving further into the compound. I packed my car near the fleet of cars lined up and proceeded to knock at the burnished steel door. I knocked once, twice and thrice, and there was still no response.
I called her. The phone rang and paused, then it continued. The call didn't go through so I placed a call at Leila instead to tell her the reason I was not home yet. Her phone didn't ring at all.
The customer care's voice came through saying, the line you're reaching is unavailable at the moment. I hissed, shoving my phone in my pocket and re-entered my car, driving home.
In the car, my phone rang with a call from mom. I quickly packed at the side of the road to answer. Her voice came in fine, hale and hearty, as the security personnel had said.
"You sound okay." I simply stated, trying to make sense of this.
She sighed, accompanied by a breat
