Chapter 56
I alighted the taxi, making my way towards the spiral stairs leading up to our apartment. Amy was up there, waiting for me, outstretching her arms expectantly. She hugged me, soaking me in her embrace, patting my hair and whispering words of comfort. Once we pulled away from each other in silence, she grabbed the handle of my box, rolling the box away as I followed suit.
I settled on the sofa, placing my hand on my bulging tummy and heaved a sigh. Amy laddened the table with a tray of dishes, urging me to eat but I looked away, crying. I remember that I hadn't picked my Aunty’ s call while I was in the cab, she must have been calling to talk about my mother’s death. Today was just a bad day for me.
