I pulled my knee away from his touch, even as warmth spread through me from where his fingers had been. “You’re ‘ensuring’ a lot more than necessary.”
“Am I?” His eyes flicked to me briefly, lips curled into a smirk. “You seem flustered.”
“I’m not flustered,” I lied, crossing my arms. “I just don’t appreciate being treated like a possession.”
“I never said you were a possession.”
“Your investment, then,” I corrected, rolling my eyes. “Same difference.”
“Not at all. An investment implies value.” His voice took on that dangerous tone. “And you, Madison Harper, are extremely valuable to me.”
