Chapter 52

I could feel his distrust and I blushed out of embarrassment.

He chucked down the last of his beverage without another word and got up from his seat. I watched with an uneasy feeling as I watched him walk up the stairs. He soon came back with his phone and looked down at me with a strange expression. The look drove my anxiety to its peak and I could feel my heart jumping within my chest. Why was he staring at me that way?

He tapped his phone and his voice played out of it. My heart sank within me when I realized it belonged to Catherine.

“Hello, sir. My name is Catherine Montez, I am your father-in-law's caretaker. He asked me to call you and request that you allow his daughter to come visit him.”

“Sure, he didn’t even have to ask. She is his daughter and she can go see him at any time she wants to.” Joseph’s voice responded.

“I have something to say, I hope you won’t mind?” Catherine asked uneasily.

“Of course not, shoot. What is it?” Joseph asked
