Chapter 36

Jessica watched as they left, and the room fell silent. Ever since Leslie got inside, she had been going on and on nonstop about everything she found worth talking about. Now that she was alone, she missed the chatter. She was only glad she had managed to uproot Xavier, who had refused to leave the hospital room all day.

She stretched to retrieve the remote from the cupboard and switched it on to a soap opera. She was not a fan of television, but watching the soap opera would help her fall asleep faster.

The door to the room opened, and Angel popped her head inside and smiled. She had been worried about the young lady since she was rushed out in the morning, and she had eagerly volunteered to bring her dinner.

“Hello, young lady,” Angel said, walking in with a lunch box and closing the door behind her.
