Chapter 30
His hand was wrapped around her waist as he slept soundly in the midst of darkness. Her eyes slowly opened only to come face to face with the darkness. The sound of a heart monitor was starting to irritate her with each beep.
One thing she had hated all her life was needles, and seeing that she had a cannula in her hand made her feel like she had to remove it sooner or later. Her eyes looked around the room, wondering where she was. All she could remember to see last was Gaetano’s eyes.
“Gaetano,” she whispered. Her throat ached, and her voice was more hoarse and rough than usual.
A soft snore pulled her attention toward her left, and her heartbeat increased. Gaetano was sleeping soundly next to her. Having turned her face to the left, there were only a few countable inches from his. Her silver eyes outlined every inch of his face, and she managed to smile.
