Chapter 206
The room was dimly lit. The rhythmic beep of the heart monitor echoed in the quiet. Ayleen’s gaze landed on him—Murat, lying pale and still against the white sheets. A cannula fed him oxygen; IV drips delivered medication. His face, always strong and composed, now seemed fragile. Vulnerable.
Tears welled in her eyes. She moved forward, gently taking his hand in hers. His fingers were cold. She intertwined their hands, brushing her thumb over his knuckles. With her other hand, she smoothed back his slightly ruffled hair.
“You always looked perfect,” she whispered, her voice breaking. “Even now.”
But he didn’t stir. His chest rose and fell steadily, yet he seemed so far away.
The door creaked. Ayleen turned sharply. Dr. Minhaas entered, his expression grim.
“Ayleen,” he started softly. “I wish I had better news.”
Her breath caught. She gripped Murat’s hand tighter.
“What… what is it?” she asked, dread creeping into her voice.
