Chapter 9. Body Travel
Becky and Alicia watched Jimmy as he drifted in and out of consciousness.
“Jimmy! Jimmy!” Becky called out.
“Jimmy… Jimmy!” Alicia called out too.
There was no response from Jimmy. He had no idea where he was. All he could hear were continuous static noises which were later replaced with the Marine Hymn that sounded like a gong in his ears.
While he continued drifting in and out of consciousness, he saw himself standing on a parade ground with his full gear and his rifle well positioned. When he looked up into the sky, a blinding light shone on his face. He quickly hid his face.
After a while, he raised his head and started gazing into the sky. The blinding light was gone, and all he could see was himself standing alone on the parade ground.
No fellow marine was around him, which got him worried. When he raised his leg to take a step, he heard the drums roll and the trumpet sound; but there was still no one around.
