Chapter 33
He approached Kattie’s bed slowly, where she lay. He took hold of her icy hands, as if transferring warmth to them. A second later, he pressed his lips against her forehead and placed her hands gently under the blanket. Kattie, still unaware of anything, had succumbed to proper sleep after days of pretending because of her insomnia.
Seeing the lingering tears on her cheeks, which had caused her delicate hair to stick to her face, he instinctively reached out to brush them aside. The sound of her gentle and rhythmic breathing filled the room. Not wanting to disturb her, he spruced the blanket. Satisfied, he turned and left the room, heading to his study.
Looking at the scattered papers on the desk, he couldn’t resist rolling up his sleeves to tidy them up. Viktor had neglected them for a few days, and now he finally had the chance to inspect them. After finishing the task, he approached his chair, sat down, and let his body sink freely into the soft leather.
