The moonlight cut across my office floor like a blade when Selene slipped inside. She thought she was quiet. She thought that I would not notice that she escaped.

She wasn’t. I’d been waiting.

I had my eyes everywhere and I knew for a fact that I could not depend on just the two people that were within.

“You left.” My voice came out like a growl, low and sharp enough to make her flinch. “At night. Without my word. Do you have any idea how close you are to bleeding for that mistake? Do you realize that a million not covering for you is going to end up jeopardizing almost everything if they find out that you left?”

Her wolf quivered, I could feel it, she hated that it was betraying her, leaning toward submission where once she would have fought. I stepped forward, and she backed up instinctively. “Your wolf's loyalty is changing.”

“I didn’t betray you, I am controlling her as best as I can.” she whispered. “I can’t help what my wo
