Christine’s POV
I could not believe my eyes. Not at the fact that Christopher was cheating on me but that Mary? My own friend and maid raised in the same household as me could betray me? When she turned her head to look at me her expression was one of annoyance not one of remorse or penitence.
“What is the meaning of this?” I screamed in anger.
“What does it look like?” Mary rolled her eyes.
I was bedazzled. Was it not just yesterday I had gifted her a new dress because she said she had a wedding to attend soon? Was it not yesterday we had giggled like the old friends we were? How could she betray me this way? It felt as though someone had lunged a knife into my chest and the person holding that knife was my own friend.
“Get out and close the door behind you,” Christopher ordered me in a cold voice. It was the very first time he had used such a tone while addressing me.
