Raya’s POV

Before Lord Christopher had entered the room, I had shoved Matilda hard with great force under my bed. I hoped I had not injured her in the process but I had a sinking feeling that Lord Christopher was looking for her to inflict some sort of harm to her. She was the instrument I believed that he used in keeping Thallus in check.

I wondered why he had made such a mistake in the first place. Why had he slept with a married woman? Now he had a child he could not openly care for and was being used to blackmail him. If I thought about it deeply, I did not blame Thallus because if I were in a similar position, I would do what I had to do to protect my child even if it meant the whole world suffering for it.
