Keenan’s POV

I was in a haste to return to the palace. As Thallus’s right-hand man, I had a responsibility to always be available to him whenever he needed me. I hoped that in the short time I had been away he had not had cause to look for me because I had no reasonable excuse whatsoever to give, and I was rather exhausted at this point to think of one.

Thallus’s study was where I headed to, as I knew he usually liked to meditate there at this time of the day. I was about to enter to ensure that he needed nothing and had not been looking for me when the voice of a woman stopped me. At first, I thought Thallus was being intimate with a woman in his study which would be a first since I had started working for him, although it would not come as a surprise.
