Maeve’s POV
I crossed my arms over my chest as every pair of eyes in the clearing fixed on me, expecting me to decide. Were they really serious? It felt as though they wanted me to choose between my family and Draven.
No. I refused to play their game.
I shook my head and took a step back. “No. Don’t drag me into this,” I said, turning on my heel.
At that moment, Lennox motioned for me to come forward. Before I could react, his big arms closed around me in a tight embrace, and I couldn’t help rolling my eyes. But I knew it wasn’t me; I was just grateful for the support. I lifted my gaze toward Draven. His hooded eyes were trained on us.
“We need to talk—but not tonight,” he said softly. Then, brushing a gentle kiss across my forehead, he murmured, “Take care, sister.” He turned toward Luther—already radiating fury at how I’d handled things—and called, “Let’s go.”
