Draven’s POV
A piercing scream shook the ground beneath me, and a blinding blue light flooded the darkness, blotting out the moon. I couldn’t see a thing. An unfamiliar energy rippled through the earth so powerfully it forced me to shift from wolf back into human form.
The screams continued, slicing through the air and stirring it into a frenzy that seemed hell-bent on destroying anything—or anyone—in its path. The earth quaked with each howl, the blue glare unwavering as the cries rose to a frenzied pitch.
Then, after what felt like an eternity, the trembling stopped and the light winked out. Moonlight returned, revealing… nothing. My mate, Maeve, was gone. Panic clawed at me. Ryker paced at my side, his own anxiety fueling my impatient rage.
