Nate’s POV

Josh had returned with Becky not long after Ember had left me alone so abruptly. I sat staring morosely at the now empty cup of Chai in front of me, her half-empty mug sat mockingly on the counter next to it, as if reminding me of my ineptitude.

“All sorted Alpha. Phones are ordered as well as electronic notebooks and a laptop. I’ll help them set everything up once they arrive.” Josh said brightly as he took a seat next to me.

I grunted as I stared at the mugs.

The silence extended uncomfortably, and I heard Josh shift uncomfortably in his seat.

“Everything okay Alpha? Where’s Ember?” He asked tentatively.

I turned to face him and shrugged helplessly.

“I don’t know what happened. We were talking about getting a tutor and personal trainer… things were going so well.” I sighed as Brutus whimpered sadly in my head.
