Chapter 34

Nate’s POV

I was still fuming about the Alpha King’s conduct towards other races’ requests for help. It didn’t make sense to me. We should be presenting a united front and facing threats against all of our races together, not isolating ourselves.

Brutus was pacing and snarling furiously, snapping his jaws angrily at imagined confrontations with the Alpha King when we did meet.

If the situation wasn’t so serious then I might have laughed at the almost stereotypical representation of a caged wolf. It seemed a little ironic.

“Alpha, do you have a minute?” Josh asked as he popped his head around the door cautiously.

I waved him in with a sigh and threw my pen down on the desk as I leaned back in the leather chair and ran my hand through my hair in irritation.

“Sorry… were you busy?” He asked as he paused mid-stride with his phone in one hand and a tray that held large mugs in the other.

I shook my head with a wry smile.
