Nate’s POV

I had spent the majority of the night by Ember’s side, with all of us hoping that our mate bond would trigger something inside her, but to no avail. There was no drastic change in her condition, and it filled my heart with sorrow. Brutus was both devastated and furious at the condition of his soulmate, but there was no one left for us to take our anger out on.

Ulfric had left, leaving a promise of swift repercussions with Josh, hastily retreating when Rae appeared at his side.

Being marked as traitors to the crown was less than ideal, but there was no turning back now.
