Chapter 144. Doubts

When Saelyna finally caught up to the queen, she took a moment to observe the woman who had been such a constant presence in her life for the past six weeks, before speaking in a small voice.

“Will you tell me what we are really doing here? Will you tell me anything?”

The queen cast a quick glance towards the princess, giving her a soft smile.

“No, my love,” she said with a gentle shake of her head. “Forgive me. I have already told you too much today, and I fear that it might overwhelm you.”

“I think it already has,” whispered Saelyna, casting a worried glance towards the ground.

The queen remained silent as she gazed at the ground, contemplating their next move. ‘I hope you are not expecting me to give you answers tonight, my dear,’ she thought to herself as her gaze landed upon the sun setting. ‘It will only serve to distract you, and I would like to remain focused on finding the ancient artefact.’
