Chapter 148. Hallucinations

I took a deep breath, my breathing growing unsteady. Despite the fact that I was no longer afraid of the darkness, I still felt uneasy being alone. Even though I was surrounded by the comforting scent of damp grass and earth, I was completely exposed without my companions by my side.
I shuddered lightly, my stomach churning uncomfortably. I hoped that they had indeed reached safety. Otherwise, I would have to fend for myself.
I turned around once again, only to meet with the same scene I had witnessed earlier. The forest seemed endless, extending out beyond my vision, and I could detect no sign of any indication that there was a path leading to anywhere in particular.
I sighed, frustrated with myself for not realizing sooner the extent of my predicament. I had been walking aimlessly for the past twenty or thirty minutes, and had only recently discovered that I could still move freely in this world of illusion.
