Chapter 22
They took a couple of days to get back to Luxer. When Elizabeth saw the city's entrance, she felt her spirits lift. After such a traumatic event, she was glad to still be alive. She looked at Peter, who was sitting beside her. The man seemed to have aged ten years due to the combined exhaustion and stress. Elizabeth placed a hand on his shoulder to let him know that everything was fine, that there was nothing to worry about, that they would move forward.
The jeeps drove through the city's streets, and Elizabeth observed the tall buildings as if it were her first time. There were many people bustling about, completely oblivious to them. She began to feel somewhat out of place amidst all the modernity, covered in a layer of sand just like the vehicles. She decided that the first thing she would do when they arrived at the hotel would be to take a long bath.
