After Mike and Carmen left, promising to return later, Elizabeth got up from the hospital bed to stretch her legs, which were beginning to stiffen from lying in the same position for so long. She went to the bathroom to wash her face, certain that she must have looked disturbing. The tap water was lukewarm, and Elizabeth enjoyed the feeling of it against her skin. When she looked up, her reflection in the mirror left her speechless.
