Chapter 52
"Are you missing that country a lot, aren't you?" she asked, staring at her intently.
Elizabeth froze and interrupted the pace of their walk. Both of them stopped right in front of the house, from where they could see the road leading to the property. The raven-haired woman thought about how to answer that question. If she were honest with herself, she would say that she had good moments in Egypt, and despite the events that still haunted her, she met incredible people who, in one way or another, left an indelible mark on her.
"There's something in my blood that recognizes where I come from," she finally admitted, taking a seat on one of the benches adorning the garden. Elizabeth slid her hand over the white surface, briefly recalling how she had helped Cristina paint them when she was a child. "When I was in Egypt, I felt that something inside me sang, reacting to the ancient surroundings, like magnets that attract and repel equally," she said, trying to force a smile.
