Amélie looked at her, clearly expecting any response except this one. Elizabeth nodded, making it clear that she hadn't misheard; she had indeed rejected her job offer. Her godmother also looked at her, confused, unable to understand why her goddaughter would so decisively reject such a golden opportunity.
"That's right, I don't want to be rude, but I have no intention of going back to work on anything related to Princess Nefertiti. At least not for the moment," she asserted, crossing one leg over the other, imitating Amélie.
"Are you absolutely sure?" the woman insisted one last time. "You're one of the best archaeologists I've ever met. This would be a great opportunity for you to make a name for yourself in the industry," she said in an attempt to convince her.
"I don't have those kinds of intellectual ambitions," she stated seriously, taking a sip of her tea. Keeping her hands occupied with the cup helped her feel less tense.
