Chapter 28
His words do me good, though I don’t fully understand them.
“What do you have to prove to me?”
He flashes a beaming smile. “You’ll know when I show you.”
I shake my head, amused. “How much longer until we get to the place you want to show me?”
“Not long.”
“And you won’t give me clues?”
“Not one,” he says.
“Okay. In that case, can I keep tormenting you about your old girlfriends?”
“You have no idea how much that excites me.”
I grin. “Actually, I’m more interested in the film, but talking about Irena Kent reminded me. My friend Jamie says she’s angling for a lead and that’s why she’s being so sweet.”
“I wouldn’t be surprised,” he says tightly. “But considering I don’t want the movie made, her plan’s bound to fail.”
“Is it true you hit the screenwriter?”
He grips the wheel more tightly. “Please tell me you didn’t read that in the tabloids.”
“No, Jamie told me on the sly. She heard it from a good source.”
