Chapter 31
A boat?
I’m on a pier near the fishing village of Marina del Rey, staring at an amazing cream-colored boat and wondering what the hell we’re doing here.
“We’d be on the island by now if we’d asked Clark or Grayson to take us by helicopter.” I snap at Marcus, but he just shrugs and keeps doing whatever he’s doing on his phone. It took us longer to drive here from Malibu than it would have to fly to Santa Cortez.
I wait for an answer, but Marcus still says nothing.
“Are you even listening to me?”
He looks up. “I’m checking that everything’s in order.” He shows me his phone. “And I’ve sent a message to the security team so they know we’re going by boat.”
I cross my arms and stare at him, trying to decide whether I’m irritated or amused. I opt for the second.
“May I know why we’re going to the island on a boat?”
“It’s not a ship,” he says. “It’s my boat. Besides, I wanted to show you.”
