Chapter 170. Friends

DYLAN

Ashlene blushed after saying that.

“Tell Lyle he has nothing to worry about. You’re all his. I already accepted that a long time ago.”

That statement’s supposed to be blanketed with humor but as soon as I said it, it sounded like a confession. Damn, I hate it.

“Past is past. You and I are friends now.”

Enough with the F word, I wanted to shout out. Ashlene and I can be many things, but never friends. Friends don’t look at each other like this, like they’re dying for each other’s touch. Friends don’t hurt each other’s feelings by every little thing they do. Friends don’t have confusing feelings even at the slightest touch of the hand.

All in all, I know Ashlene and I cannot be friends. It doesn’t fit. It doesn’t feel right at all. Perhaps after this outreach program, we can start being strangers to each other. That’s better. If she cannot do that, then I will. I can do that.

After all, I still have a lot of things to do with her family.
