Chapter 169. Last Rays of Light and Color

The giving of school kits and food for the students finished, and Ashlene and I followed the team to the kitchen for our early dinner. It’s 5 in the afternoon, and everything is yet to be done. Since all hands were used for the distribution and for the pupils’ feeding program, no one else was left in the kitchen to cook.
“Do you know how to cook?” Madame Principal asked me.
I nodded and then named Tanya and Nica to help me in the kitchen.
“How about Ashlene?” Principal Michelle asked.
I shrugged, and she looked at me with unbelief.
The thing is, Ashlene doesn’t like cooking. She knows how to fry or to boil eggs but that’s it. She doesn’t like to risk being sizzled with hot cooking oil or being douched by hot soup.
“She’s not fond of cooking, Madame,” I added.
“Okay then. I’ll ask her to help prepare the table.”
I nodded and watched her walk away from us.
