The only thing my invisible double was obligated to do at this stage was to reach the top of the building, unsheathe his katana, and prepare himself for his tormentors.
He began to walk toward the building in slow and determined steps. It was his first time, so there was no need to rush. Walking through the wall and toward the staircase, he paused and looked to his right, where there were toilets and wash-hand basins.
It wasn’t nice that they should choose somewhere dedicated to educating children for something like this. Everywhere was so clean, tidy, and serene, except for the kindergarten classes, which had televisions for the toddlers.
All these seemed to wave past his mind as he doubled his pace and climbed the stairs to the first storey without relenting or stopping to rest. He was soon at the top, looking down at the highway from where he sat.
