Chapter 15. I Don’t Have a Family
Third-Person POV
Hannah moved as the line moved, slowly. Her eyes ran across the large hall, taking in the tons of people in it. People like her, homeless people with no one to turn to.
“Thank you,” she whispered with a slight bow before walking away with her tray.
She nervously looked around the hall, trying to find a perfect spot to sit. One where she wouldn’t have to talk much to anyone.
Her eyes landed at a corner where a young pregnant lady was seated. The lady smiled warmly at her as their eyes met. Without another thought, her legs wandered there while she nervously returned the gesture.
“Hello,” the girl said as she sat beside her.
“Hi,” she replied.
“I’m Katie, you?”
She wanted to not answer, but her tongue betrayed her. “Hannah,” she murmured.
Hannah tried not to rush the food, especially the hot soup, but this was the only proper meal she’d had in days. She was starving, and so was her baby.
