Chapter 47. I Can’t Stay
Hannah’s POV
“Katie has left the hospital.”
“But she’s not here,” I said to Margaret in total confusion.
Margaret took a deep breath before responding. “She ran away, Hannah.”
I was too stunned to speak for a few seconds. She really did leave.
“And the baby?”
Margaret sighed. “Left without the baby.”
When I didn’t speak, Margaret continued. “I called social services. They’re already looking for the best adoption option.”
Every ounce of pity I had for Katie vanished into thin air.
“If he’s not adopted now, he’ll go into the system.”
She sighed. “Yes, he will. But the chances of a newborn getting adopted are very high. He’ll likely get a family before the week runs out.”
But not always. I’m a living example.
“I thought to let you know before the others,” she added.
“Thank you, Margaret.”
How could she? Does she have any idea how bad the system is? She just upped and left that poor baby without
