Lena’s POV
The next day, I buried myself in work because that has always been the easier way to distract myself.
I was walking out of my office to begin my rounds when I heard someone call my name.
“Dr. Pretakis.”
I turned at the sound of a nurse calling my name. “Yes?”
“The patient in ward three is ready for review.”
“Alright, I’m coming.”
For the next few hours, I moved from one ward to another, checking vitals, reviewing cases, and discussing treatments with the team.
Every time my mind tried to drift back to Lucas, I forced myself to refocus on my work.
By the time lunch break came, I was exhausted. I had just stepped out of the last ward when I heard a familiar voice behind me.
“Lena.”
Leonard was standing outside the ward in a crisp shirt, hands tucked casually into his pockets, but his expression was anything but casual.
We haven’t had the time to talk since Lucas came.
“Dr. Smith,” I greeted
