Chapter 209. A Shadow

As soon as the bidding was done, and the party moved on to less formal activities, I joined the small string of people stealing away to the rooftop, grateful to be able to escape the torment of Samantha and Colt.

I walked up the stairs blindly, confused. 

Was he with Samantha now? Did he push me away so he could be with her?

But that did not make any sense because that was so unlike Colt. But whatever reason he had, why her? 

If he had to show up with a date to maintain the image that we were no longer together, and he had moved on, why Samantha? He could have come here with Tara.

She was level-headed, mature and over the past few weeks we had formed a sort of friendship, or maybe friendship was too strong a word.

“Hello.” I heard beside me, and jumped. The man's face was unfamiliar, and I frowned, taking in his Zegna suit, Breguet Ref wristwatch, and cologne I suspected was something from the house of creed.
