Chapter 31. The Big News

Ava’s POV

I had spent the week away from Sophie and inconvenienced Mason too and I was starting to feel guilty about it. That morning I woke earlier than usual to make breakfast for us.

I reached for my cell and dialed Mason.

“Hey, can you come over with Sophie? Breakfast is ready.”

“Don’t you have to be at work?” Mason asked. “You didn’t have to stress yourself with that.”

“I wanted to.” I sighed. “I haven’t seen her properly this week and I’m only getting busier every day.”

There was a pause before he replied “Okay. We’ll be there in ten minutes.”

Exactly ten minutes later, the apartment echoed with the sound of small feet running to the living room and Sophie threw arms around my neck with a tight squeeze. “Mommy, I missed you.”

I hugged her with teary eyes and my throat filled with a lump. “I missed you too, baby. Sorry I was so busy.”
