Chapter 36
For some reason, she was glad that she told them the whole truth. The only reason she ever took the job was to satisfy their needs. If it were only her welfare at stake, she would have rejected the offer and lived on the street. Okay, maybe not.
She was lost in her own thoughts on the visitor’s chair in Tony’s hospital ward, where she had earlier fallen asleep the previous night, when she felt a warm tap on her shoulder. Helen had come. She wasn’t able to sleep at the hospital because Alicia insisted she go home and come back the next day.
“I’m here to take care of everything. The chair over there is barely enough to contain me,” Alicia told her.
“What are you thinking about? Mr. Macpherson?” Helen chuckled, teasing her and stealing a glance at Tony on his bed. She wished he wasn’t fast asleep; he definitely would have backed her up and made teasing Alicia more fun.
