Chapter 37. Pawns in Your Game

Eryis doesn’t know about my old self. She only knows me as Tara, her mother. Because of that, I feel my heart sinking to my stomach, every organ I have threatening to shut down as my marrows excrete pain that has me quivering.

“That’s not me, honey,” I say shakily despite trying to control my voice.

Thankfully, Eryis didn’t pick up the panic in my tone. “It’s you. It looks like you. A Halloween verrshion of you,” she insists. “Will you please dwesh like dis forr next Halloween, mommy?”

I stare across the living room at Cross who looks at me once again, his thick brows knitting together when he realizes that the sweat soaking my clothes aren’t normal.

My previous life keeps haunting my current one. And I’m feeling more guilty for hiding things from the important people around me.

Eryis and Christopher.

I really should tell them the truth before they get to find out about it in the wrongest way.

Still finding it difficult to control
