Chapter 43. Guilt Eats Deep
My eyes are on the clock, counting every second, every minute and every tick of the clock hands until three hours before I finally stand up.
Passing by the living room, Zeath is still asleep, so I continue to my room to resume the morning routine I had paused.
I prepared Eryis for the morning before having my own bath and preparing brunch. By the time I’m done and return to the living room, I catch Eryis toying with the woken Zeath.
They seem to get along so well. But then it only reminds me about how I vowed never to let Eryis meet her father.
“Eryis, honey,” I call while making my presence known.
“Mommy! Nectar’s daddy talks like Nectar!” she screams as she meets me.
“I know, beau. Go upstairs, will you? I’ll call you when it’s time to eat.”
“Okay, mommy! When is Daddy Cross coming?”
“Soon.”
I watch the girl run
