Chapter 4
Fallon’s POV
“By the way, I heard from a friend of a friend that Tixon is hiring maids. Is that true? I could tell my sister to try.”
Clide nodded. “Yeah. They are hiring cleaners and room servants. I was going to tell you; it must have skipped my mind.”
His friend nodded. “When is the interview?”
“Tomorrow at 10 am. Tell her they like meek people and for her to always keep her head down. You know how it is; don’t look your superiors and guests in the eye.”
“Yeah, yeah. I better get going; I need to tell her to get ready.”
“Alright, man, see you later.”
Clide’s friend left the bar, and a good number of minutes later, I slipped out from the dark corner where I sat.
When I passed Clide, he still looked like he was thinking about overthrowing the vamps.
Poor guy…

The next morning, I walked in with a letter of recommendation in hand through a backdoor into Tixon.
The tiny hallway they had decided to use was filled with applicants who were all hoping to land a job.
Everyone waited their turn to go into the tiny room that was being used as an interview room. We could hear the abuses that were heaped on most candidates from outside.
You could always tell those who didn’t get a spot and those who did.
The door opened, and a young girl stepped with a moody face.
“Next,” a voice spoke loudly from the room.
I had barely set foot in it when another spoke rudely, “Shut the door behind you.”
I obeyed.
I scanned the two interviewers as they looked me over in disgust.
“What is your name?” the first woman asked.
“Victoria Priscot.”
The second woman chuckled. “Sounds like a name for some rich kid. Unluckily, you are as poor as dirt.”
“What are you applying for?”
“Room servant.”
“Do you have any experience?”
“Yes,” I handed them the fake letter of recommendation.
“I’ve worked at Figburt Hotel in Denver City. That’s a letter of recommendation from my supervisor. I had to move to the capital because of my father’s ailing health.”
They looked over the letter with an impression.
The second woman spoke. “Figburt is a respectful luxury hotel.”
“Yes, indeed. Finally, someone with some sort of experience.”
Thirty minutes later, I walked out of the crapped room with a new job.
I resumed the next day and began work after we were drilled on the dos and don’ts of the hotel.
The same women who had interviewed us were the ones giving us lectures.
I tried to zone myself back into the present as one of them rambled on and on about rules.
“We take pride in how we treat our esteemed guests as it reflects on the reputation of this establishment. You are to arrive for your shift on time, and you must always be presentable in your uniforms at all times. You are to do whatever the guests ask of you without question. Anyone who shows any sign of the slightest indiscipline shall be fired immediately. Keep all the rules we have laid out dearly to your hearts.”
I, like any other person, was only too glad when it came to an end.
I spent the days leading to the arrival of my target studying my new environment, especially learning the blind spots available in the hotel. And revising the steps that I would take to reach my target.
My client was scheduled to arrive for a meeting in a suite between 12:47 p.m. to 2 p.m.
I was supposed to take out the target during that time frame.
Unfortunately, I had the morning shift throughout the week.
And to not let all plans go haywire, I needed to change that.
“Hey, Rose.”
The short-haired brunette smiled at me. “Hey, Victoria, what’s good?”
“I don’t mean to be a bother, but please, can you cover my morning shift tomorrow? I need to take my father to the clinic. You know how it is at those clinics. But I will be back by eleven to cover your afternoon shift.”
For a moment, I thought she would decline, but then she suddenly spoke.
“Sure, you can. It’s like the stars just shined on me. It’s my little niece’s birthday tomorrow afternoon. I was afraid I would miss it. And I was even considering asking someone to cover for me.”
I smiled at her. “Thanks, Rose. I’m so grateful.”
“Oh, c’mon, it’s nothing. Hope your father gets well soon.”
“Yeah, thanks.”
And with that, the ball was in the court.
The next morning, I arrived at the hotel by 11 a.m., like I had said I would. Every second leading up to the arrival of my target mattered.
All that mattered was me being the one to serve the room my target was expected to stay.
My client arrived by 1:15, and an order from his suite came ten minutes later.
His suite was on the top floor and one of the most luxurious suites in the hotel.
“We got an order for the executive suite.”
“I’ll take it,” I chirped in immediately.
“Yeah, be careful. Those are important guests.”
“Sure.”
One of the staff helped me roll the cart to the service elevator.
I waited patiently until the elevator opened up in the hallway. I rolled the cart out and gently began making my way to the room.
As soon as I got to the blind spot, I emptied the liquid Elixir. My back was turned to the camera, and my movement was so quick.
A knock.
“Room service.”
A young man opened the door and watched me closely. I could tell he was a vamp.
Quietly, I rolled the cart inside the suite. Two other men were discussing.
I recognized one of them as my target. The other man would also have to die, unfortunately, as collateral.
I poured the coffee into two cups.
Within seconds, I began taking my steps out of the room.
“Wait,” a voice stopped me in my tracks.
I froze but turned around with composure.
“Yes?”
“This drink is laced with Elixir.”
The shock was an understatement of what I felt.
Elixir is scentless and undetectable.
I reacted with speed. One punch to the one who opened the door for me. I needed to get out immediately.
The vamp groaned as I had targeted his groin before heading for the door.
I didn’t make it to the door as the world went dark.
