I marched forward, my hands plopped inside my pocket. “You think working alongside Nathaniel will bring you good luck, or much to say, running away from your punishment back then,” I tried as much as I could not to show my anger. Not that my insides weren’t burning. Rage was the word I would use to describe what I was feeling inside. Nevertheless, we needed to have a man-to-man talk before I executed whatever I planned to do.
A smile danced at his lips. “Punishment? I did the right thing back then. I saved your father from his enemies.”
A chuckle escaped me. He thought I’d buy his made-up lie. “You haven’t changed much, Bennett. You’re still the conniving man.”
“Well, we change based on the situation. You can say my character has gotten much better.” The smile that made its way out of him made my insides boil. There was no form of remorse on the man’s face, and I doubted if there ever would be.
