My eyes said it all, and surprisingly, she’d understood it immediately. I’d hoped. I’d never been a man of many words, and ever since I learned there was power in silence, I’d never looked back. The truth was, no one gave two shits about your words; all they cared about were your actions. If you were capable or not, if you could live up to your name, or if you were another spineless weakling, they could break. I’d been in both positions before and if I was being honest, I very much preferred being the latter.

I tuned back into reality as the soles of my shoes slowly kissed the stairs that led into the compound. The moment I thought about it, the low hum of my Mercedes reached my ears, and all it took was a blink for the vehicle to pull up in front of me and just at the base of the stairs.

Perfect.

“You’re on time,” I said the moment I was settled at the back of the Mercedes.
