Chapter 81. A Moment Alone
Evelyn’s POV
“I will be right back, my love,” Nolan whispered, kissing my cheek gently. I nodded and watched as he sauntered off to the central part of the packhouse towards his office. I looked across at Cady and wondered how she must be feeling. It would have been a scary ordeal for her, too, but I was glad she was safe and alive.
“Good to see you back, Evelyn,” she stepped towards me as my mother continued to hug Ethan, smothering his face with kisses.
“Thank you. I’m glad to be back, too,” I replied, drumming my fingers at my side and trying to squash the awkwardness I suddenly felt.
“Look, things haven’t been great, but I am always here for you, anytime.” She sighed and pulled me into a hug. I felt myself sink into her. She had been my best friend for a long time, after all.
“Cady, thank you; it means a lot,” I smiled at her as we pulled apart. She held me at arm’s length and offered me a warm smile. She looked so pretty when she smiled, but
